New Rubber! Continental TKC80 TwinDuro for Battlefield Touring
I've been doing more and more grean laning wherever I can. A lot of the battlefields I've visited have lanes that are ride-able with the right kit. Although the Bridgstone Trailwings I had on my F650GS were great for the road and single tracks, they were proving to be a little light for the task in the mud. Therefore, when my bike failed its MOT for a worn rear tyre/ tire, I decided to try something new this time. I talked with the guy at Micheldever Tyres and he recommended three different ones that were more enduro than my Trailwings, but not wholly unsuited for highway either.
The three were:
The Metzeler Enduro 3 was a really good looking tyre, but it was a little too much like the Trailwing. The Karoo was actually a little too agressively off-road with its big gaps and contra-directional teeth. So, like Goldilocks, I chose the ones that were just right.
Riding home, I noticed a little more "boogie" in the back end, but nothing nasty at all. I didn't have time to try a green lane or the motorway, but I was pleasantly surprised that it didn't affect asphalt riding much at all.
I'm going to pay attention to the Continental TKC80s as I mix rides along battlefield lanes and green lanes, as well as my occasional work forays into London on the motorways and streets. I'll report back when I've got more info.
UPDATE: After 250 all purpose miles.
Here's how it looked fitted.
